Hanover, NH

I'm in Hanover, NH!  215 miles since I got back on the trail in Great Barrington, MA, 12 days of hiking.  For the most part the weather was very good, low 80s in the afternoons and chilly at night.  (One night I had to wear all of my clothes while in my sleeping bag inside my bivy inside my tent... just warm enough in the upper-40s night.)

Friendly trail maintenance crews in VT

Weather has mostly been great

The terrain has been fairly forgiving in that there have been fewer rocks on the trail, though the number of climbs has increased.  It's been quite beautiful since Connecticut, and Vermont has at times looked remarkably like the south.

Breakbast scenery

I now have 442 miles left to go... but I'm about to enter The White Mountains, some of the toughest terrain I'll cross.  4,000-foot climbs are commonplace, and I'll be above alpine level at times.

Saw this several days ago... woo hoo!

Things are generally getting more remote as I go, and with the terrain, I can't just carry more food.  It's a puzzle I'm solving as I go.  I'm not the first one to do this, though, so it's a matter of figuring it out.

Using the bridge was easier than fording

Mini rock cairns

Some of the scenery has been spectacular.

Not a lot of snow skiing going on today

I was pretty tired when I arrived in New Hampshire, but I was met by my friends Debbie and Chris who took me for a cup of tea, then whisked me away to an inn in nearby Lyme, NH.  We had a lovely couple of days of relaxing and chatting while I rested, ate, and prepared for the next leg.  Huge thanks to Debbie and Chris for hosting me in their state and driving me around!

Monday I'm on my way again, three days to resupply, then another five or six through very tough terrain to Gorham, NH.  Getting closer!
