In The Whites

I'm in Lincoln, NH taking a zero after an initial push into The Whites.  We had heavy storms sweep through last night, so a bunch of us ducked into a hostel.

The weather at Mt. Washington calls for below-freezing temperatures tonight, and with 80mph winds, quite the wind chill.  It's icy up there, and I sent my winter gear home.  I'll prepare as I can in town today and hope it warms up and calms down before I get into The Presidentials.

It should take me five days to get to Gorham, NH and through The Whites.  Then it's into Maine!  I'm currently less than 400 trail miles from Katahdin.

I'm pretty pressed for time, what with resupply and other errands to be completed today.  But I wanted to pass along some images from the past few days.  Sorry, no captions.

  1. So glad to hear your appreciation for my beautiful home state. You've captured some stunning, though familiar scenes in the mountains, looking forward to more! If there were a place to catch up with you again before Maine, I'd bring you another supply of freeze dried veggies!!

  2. Dude! I always enjoy seeing an update from you. You've seen some pretty freaking awesome stuff! It took me a little while to get used to the beard because since as far back as I can remember now you have been, ummm... aquaticly efficient... yes, that'll do there. Regardless, you've made quite the impressive journey and I'm looking forward to the next opportunity I get to sit down with you to chat.

    Happy trails!

  3. Wow! The scenery on this leg of the trail is amazing! I love the waterfalls. Another question for your next Q&A...Are you having crazy hiking dreams when you sleep?

    1. Suellen! Nope... no crazy hiking dreams. In fact, I get so tired that I pretty much don't remember my dreams at all. I suspect that I'll have some when I get back, though. I'll let you know!
