I arrived in Waynesboro last evening after an epic week-long haul from Dalesville. It's the longest push without resupply since Nantahala, and now that my food consumption has roughly doubled, the heaviest pack I have carried. I will try as I can to avoid such long stints in the future... 2/3 of my pack weight was food, I had to average > 20 miles per day, and the pack itself was certainly overloaded.
There is a major fire in The Shenandoah National Forest ahead, and I want to see cousin Paul near Front Royal, so some puzzles to figure out on timing and logistics for next steps. But I may be less than two weeks from the half way point: Harper's Ferry, WV. I am considering celebrating by taking a train into DC and spending a day at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Annex. (I've been to the main museum on The Mall, but have never been to the much larger remote facility.)
So today is about updates, planning, and getting ready for the next leg. Confidence is high that this puzzle will resolve very well.
Oh, and here is my adorable (and comfortable) room and guest lounge at the B&B in Waynesboro. This afternoon it's off to a Trail-famous all-you-can-eat buffet to wreak havoc. I'm down to 144 lbs and doing what I can to not lose more weight.
