Final Prep

I can't believe that I'm actually about to leave!  It's been a lot of work getting ready, and I kind of feel like I could prepare for another month if given that extra time.  But if I'm doing things like adjusting contents of supply boxes and testing recipes, it's time to go.

Actually, getting the home front ready has been harder than preparing for the effort itself.  I haz cats... and grass that grows at astonishing speed.  But with the help of my support team, I'm just about ready.

There's some pretty severe weather ripping across the southeast, including heavy rains, high winds, and minor phenomena like tornadoes.  Those should be through by Friday, so I'll keep my departure date in place even if tornadoes move the forest around a bit.

I still have one complaining knee -- my knees are always complaining about something, so no news there -- and I'm not as prepared physically as I'd like to be.  But that will work itself out once I get moving.

Day 1 will be a mostly-uphill trail that merely gets me to the "official" start of the trail.  I'm hoping to get through Mountain Crossings within a few days, resupply, and head for the Nantahala Outdoor Center.  I should be able to resupply there and rest.

To be continued...
